HiKorea F-2-7 Online Application: How to Apply Through the Portal
HiKorea (hikorea.go.kr) is the Korea Immigration Service's central online portal for immigration applications, appointment bookings, and status tracking. For F-2-7 applicants, it is the starting point for the application process — but the portal's limitations mean that most applicants still end up at an immigration office in person at some stage.
Here is what you can and cannot do through HiKorea, and how to navigate the process efficiently.
What HiKorea Can and Cannot Do for F-2-7 Applications
What you can do on HiKorea:
- Download the official F-2-7 application form
- Book an appointment at your nearest immigration office
- Submit some applications or renewals online (eligibility varies)
- Track the status of a submitted application
- Check current processing time estimates
- Access the official points calculation worksheet
- View fee schedules and payment information
What still requires in-person attendance:
- First-time F-2-7 status change applications (status change from E-series or D-series visa)
- Submitting physical original documents
- Biometric updates when required
- Resolving discrepancies or queries flagged during processing
For a standard F-2-7 application, you will almost certainly need to attend your regional immigration office in person at least once. Online submission is available for some renewal applications, but first-time applicants should not rely on full online processing.
Creating a HiKorea Account
Before you can access immigration services on HiKorea, you need to create an account linked to your ARC (Alien Registration Card) number.
- Go to hikorea.go.kr and select the English version
- Click "Sign Up" and choose the foreigner registration path
- Enter your ARC number, passport number, and contact details
- Verify your phone number via the SMS verification system
- Set your login credentials
If the verification fails — which happens frequently when phone numbers registered with immigration do not match the number you are entering — contact the immigration hotline (1345) or visit the immigration office to update your registered contact information before proceeding.
Booking an Appointment
For F-2-7 applications, you should book an appointment at the immigration office that covers your registered address. Each regional immigration office manages appointments through HiKorea.
- Log in and navigate to "Make a Reservation"
- Select your regional office (based on where your ARC is registered, not where you work)
- Select the service type: "Change of Status" for first-time F-2-7 applicants; "Extension/Renewal" for existing F-2-7 holders
- Choose a date and time slot — availability varies significantly by office
Major cities like Seoul and Busan often have appointment backlogs of 2–6 weeks. If your current visa expires within 60 days, note this on your application and contact the immigration office directly (by phone or in person) to request priority scheduling. For visa holders nearing expiry, showing up early in the morning without an appointment for queue-based service is an option at many offices, though it involves significant wait times.

Downloading the Application Form
The official F-2-7 application form (통합신청서, "integrated application form") is available for download on HiKorea. Use the most current version — the form is updated periodically and older versions may be rejected at the counter.
The integrated application form is the same document used for multiple visa types. You indicate the type of application (status change to F-2-7) in the designated field on the form.
Fill out the form completely in Korean or English. Leaving fields blank or writing "N/A" for required fields without explanation is a common cause of counters asking you to redo paperwork on the spot.
The Points Calculation Worksheet
The Korea Immigration Service maintains an official F-2-7 points calculation worksheet. You should download this, fill it in with your actual scores, and bring the completed worksheet to your appointment.
The officer will verify your self-calculated score against your submitted documents during the appointment. It is in your interest to be accurate — if you claim points you cannot document, the officer deducts them at the window and may not give you time to retrieve missing documents. If your score after deductions falls below 80, your application is typically returned.
Fill out the worksheet conservatively. If you are not sure whether a qualification counts as STEM, err on the side of the lower score in your pre-calculation, then bring the documents and let the officer decide.
Tracking Your Application After Submission
After your appointment, HiKorea will show the status of your application under your account dashboard. Statuses typically include: Received → Under Review → Approved → ARC Processing → Complete.
Processing takes two to four weeks for most standard F-2-7 applications. Applications that require secondary review — typically when the total score is 80–85, close to the minimum — may take longer. If you have received no update after four weeks, contact the 1345 immigration hotline with your application receipt number.
Common HiKorea Portal Issues
Appointment slots not visible: If the calendar shows no available slots for weeks, try checking back at midnight or early morning — cancellations are released throughout the day and new slots are sometimes added in the early hours.
English UI limitations: Not all features of HiKorea have complete English translations. For form fields in Korean you cannot interpret, the 1345 hotline offers multilingual support.
Login failures: If your ARC information has changed (new card issued, address updated), your HiKorea login may fail until the records are synchronized. Visit the immigration office to update your profile.
Do You Need to Use HiKorea?
Some applicants bypass HiKorea entirely and simply show up at the immigration office. This is technically possible for queue-based service at offices that offer it, but the wait times are often several hours and service quality is more variable than scheduled appointments.
For F-2-7 applications, using HiKorea to book a scheduled appointment is strongly recommended. The appointment slot ensures you are seen by an officer who has been allocated time for a full status change review, rather than a queue officer handling routine renewals.
