UAE Golden Visa Documents Required and How to Apply Online

The UAE Golden Visa application is largely digital, but the documents behind it are very much physical — attested, stamped, and in some cases notarized across multiple government systems in multiple countries. Knowing exactly what you need before you start saves weeks of back-and-forth with the ICP or GDRFA portals.

This guide covers the document requirements by category and the step-by-step online application process for both the Dubai (GDRFA) and Abu Dhabi/northern emirates (ICP) pathways.

How to Apply Online: ICP Portal (Abu Dhabi and Northern Emirates)

  1. Visit ICP Smart Services at icp.gov.ae and create or log in to your account.

  2. Select "Golden Residency" from the services menu. The portal will ask you to select your category.

  3. Upload documents. All documents must be uploaded as high-resolution scans (minimum 300 DPI). Low-resolution or edited scans are one of the most common reasons for automatic rejection.

  4. Pay the fees. Government fees for the visa application and Emirates ID are paid online via credit or debit card. Fees typically total AED 2,000 to 4,000 depending on category and duration.

  5. Wait for initial approval. The system will review the submission and issue an entry permit or an in-country approval notification, typically within 3 to 5 business days for straightforward applications.

  6. Complete medical and biometrics. Visit an approved medical center for the blood test and chest X-ray. Then visit an ICP service center for biometric enrollment (fingerprints and iris scan).

  7. Receive the Emirates ID. Dispatched via courier within 5 to 10 working days after biometric completion.

How to Apply Online: GDRFA Dubai Portal

  1. Property investors: Use the DLD Cube portal (property.gdrfa.gov.ae) which is directly integrated with Land Department records.

  2. Professionals and other categories: Use the GDRFA online portal (gdrfad.gov.ae) or visit an Amer service center with your documents.

  3. Steps from submission onward follow the same sequence as the ICP portal: fee payment → initial approval → medical → biometrics → Emirates ID.

Applying from Outside the UAE

If you are currently abroad, you cannot complete the medical test or biometrics from outside the country. The process is:

  1. Apply for a 6-month multiple-entry entry permit through ICP Smart Services (same portal, different service).
  2. Enter the UAE on the entry permit.
  3. Complete medical and biometrics inside the UAE.
  4. The entry permit converts to the full Golden Visa once biometrics are processed.

The entry permit application requires your passport and the qualifying documents for your category. It does not require a medical certificate (that comes after entry).

The Most Important Pre-Submission Check

Before uploading anything, verify that the exact spelling of your name, date of birth, and country of origin is consistent across every document: passport, degree, employment contract, Emirates ID (if held), and any professional license. A single character discrepancy triggers a system flag and suspends the application pending clarification.

This is the single most preventable cause of delay in the entire process.

For the full breakdown of each category pathway, the attestation process for foreign documents, and how to handle rejection or requests for additional documents, the UAE Golden Visa Guide covers the complete process step by step.
