Innovator Founder Visa Fees and Total Cost Breakdown (2026)

The Innovator Founder visa is often described as the route "without the £200,000 investment requirement." That framing is technically accurate — the old Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) capital threshold is gone. But the total financial commitment for this route is still substantial, and most breakdowns you find online are incomplete.

Below is a full accounting of what the Innovator Founder visa actually costs in 2026, including the fees most articles omit.

Updated Fee Schedule (Post-April 8, 2026)

On April 8, 2026, the Home Office implemented revised fees across immigration categories. These are the current official figures for the Innovator Founder route:

Fee Component Applying Outside UK Applying Inside UK (switching)
Endorsement fee £1,000 £1,000
Visa application fee £1,357 £1,693
Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) — per adult per year £1,035 £1,035
IHS total per adult (3 years) £3,105 £3,105
IHS per dependent child per year £776 £776
IHS per child total (3 years) £2,328 £2,328
Mandatory contact point meetings (×2 at £500 each) £1,000 £1,000
Priority processing (5 working days) £500 £500
Super Priority processing (2 working days) £1,000 £1,000

What You Will Actually Pay: Totals by Profile

These totals assume no priority processing and include all mandatory fees — endorsement, visa application, IHS, and the two contact point meetings.

Applicant Profile Total (Outside UK) Total (Switch/Inside UK)
Single applicant £6,462 £6,798
Applicant + partner £11,959 £12,631
Applicant + partner + 2 children £20,385 £21,057

A single founder applying from outside the UK is looking at approximately £6,462 before any professional or operational costs. That figure rises significantly for families.

The Fees Most Summaries Leave Out

Contact point meetings. The two mandatory reviews at 12 and 24 months cost £500 each, paid to your endorsing body. These are not optional — failure to attend results in withdrawal of endorsement and, in most cases, curtailment of your visa. Most online cost summaries omit these £1,000 in post-arrival fees entirely.

The endorsement fee is non-refundable. The £1,000 paid to the endorsing body is a consideration fee — you are paying for access to the assessment, not for a guaranteed outcome. If you are rejected, you do not get it back. If you are rejected and reapply to a different body, you pay again.

IHS is charged for the full visa duration at the time of application. You pay for all three years of IHS upfront at the time of submitting your visa application — you cannot pay in installments. For a single applicant, that is £3,105 as a lump sum.

ILR fees are not included. After 36 months, if you have met the settlement criteria, you will apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain. The ILR application fee is currently £2,885 per person. British citizenship (if you pursue it) adds a further application fee on top of that. These costs are not part of the initial visa but are part of the full financial picture of the route.

Additional Costs to Budget For

Beyond the mandatory government fees, most founders will also incur:

UK Companies House incorporation: £12 for digital incorporation. However, this is the statutory minimum — many founders use an incorporation agent (£50–£200) to ensure the memorandum and articles are properly drafted.

Business bank account: Digital-first banks (Revolut Business, Tide, Starling) have low or no monthly fees. Traditional banks often require a UK credit history, which makes digital-first options the practical route for new arrivals.

HMRC registration: No direct fee, but requires action within three months of starting to trade for Corporation Tax and when turnover exceeds £90,000 for VAT.

Legal advice: Full-service immigration lawyers charge £5,000–£15,000 for an Innovator Founder application. Boutique solicitors range from £3,000–£7,000. Note that many firms explicitly exclude business plan writing from their scope, so founder-facing legal work often does not include the most time-consuming preparation element.

Business plan writing services: Specialist firms charge between $1,999 and $3,500 for endorsement-ready business plans.

Comparing the Route's Cost to Its Value

The context for these numbers matters. Founders are already committing to a total immigration cost stack of £10,000–£20,000 once business setup, initial operations, and living costs are factored in. Within that context, the government fee portion represents the unavoidable baseline — it is not negotiable and it is not recoverable if the application fails.

What is negotiable is how well-prepared you arrive at the endorsement stage. The £1,000 endorsement fee is non-refundable; the preparation investment that maximizes your odds of using that £1,000 effectively is the variable you control.

The UK Innovator Founder Visa Guide includes a full cost planner alongside the endorsement preparation materials, so you can model the complete financial commitment before committing to the process.
