VFS Nairobi UK Visa Application Centre: What to Expect at Westlands
A significant number of Kenyan applicants show up to the wrong location. Blog posts, YouTube videos, and even some agency guides still reference "Village Market" or "Upper Hill" as the VFS UK visa centre in Nairobi. Both addresses are outdated. The current UK Visa Application Centre in Nairobi is at the Parkfield Building, and arriving at the wrong venue costs you your appointment.
The Correct Address
VFS Global Nairobi (UK) is located at:
Parkfield Building, 5th Floor, Muthangari Drive, off Waiyaki Way, Westlands, Nairobi
The building sits opposite Safaricom House. The nearest landmark most Uber drivers recognise is Waiyaki Way — ask to be dropped at Muthangari Drive off Waiyaki Way, not at "VFS Village Market." The building has no large signage visible from the main road.
For applicants from the Coast, VFS operates a separate Premium Application Centre in Mombasa at Imaara, Dedan Kimathi Avenue. The Mombasa centre charges an additional User Pay fee of approximately £76.50 to £150 (KES 12,000–25,000) per applicant to cover appointment booking, passport courier, and SMS updates.
Booking a Biometrics Appointment
Appointments are booked through the VFS Global website after you have submitted your online visa application on GOV.UK and received your application reference number. Standard appointments are available during regular business hours. VFS offers optional "Prime Time" slots — early morning and late afternoon — at an additional cost of approximately KES 12,000. These are useful if you are travelling from outside Nairobi and need to complete the appointment and travel back in one day.
You cannot book an appointment without completing the online application first. Do not go to the VFS centre without an appointment — walk-ins are charged approximately £89 (KES 14,000+).
The 15-Minute Arrival Rule
VFS operates a strict arrival policy: applicants are only admitted 15 minutes before their scheduled appointment time. Arriving earlier results in waiting outside on the street, not in a reception area. Arriving after the appointment slot results in being treated as a walk-in, with the walk-in fee applied.
The building is in a busy part of Westlands. Morning slots (8–10 AM) are manageable, but mid-morning traffic on Waiyaki Way and Muthangari Drive can be unpredictable. Budget for this if coming from Eastlands, South B, or Thika Road.

No Laptops, No Large Bags
The Parkfield Building has a zero-tolerance policy for laptops and large bags. Unlike the former Upper Hill location, there are no lockers at the VFS centre or in the building. If you arrive with a laptop or large backpack, you will be asked to leave it somewhere — and there is nowhere official to leave it. This is particularly disruptive for applicants who worked early that day or who have checked out of accommodation and are carrying luggage.
Plan your visit so you arrive with your passport, appointment confirmation, and a folder of supporting documents only. Leave all other items at your hotel or with a friend.
What Happens at the Appointment
VFS staff do not assess your visa application. They capture your biometric data — digital fingerprints and a facial photograph — verify that you have a valid application reference, and check that you have brought your original passport. They will also scan your supporting documents if you have chosen the document scanning service (approximately KES 3,000); otherwise, you should have uploaded your documents digitally before the appointment.
Your passport is retained by VFS during the processing period unless you have added the "Keep My Passport" service (approximately KES 10,000), which allows you to travel within East Africa while the decision is pending.
Standard Processing vs. Priority
After your biometric appointment, the standard processing time is 15 working days. In practice, NHS recruitment peaks in early 2026 have pushed standard times to 4 weeks. Priority service (5 working days) adds £500 to your visa fee; Super Priority (decision by the next working day) adds £1,000. Both are available when booking the biometric appointment on the VFS portal.
Once a decision is made, VFS will notify you by SMS and return your passport with the visa vignette — or, for refusals, with a refusal letter. Remember that the UK eVisa is digital: the vignette in your passport grants entry for 30 days, and your full immigration status exists as a digital record in your UKVI account. You will need to create and manage your UKVI account before you travel.
The Kenya to UK Skilled Worker Guide includes a full VFS appointment day checklist and covers what to bring, how to prepare your document folder, and how to set up your UKVI account after arrival.
