TB Test for UK Visa from Bangladesh — IOM Dhaka Booking, Cost, and Sputum Culture Risk

TB Test for UK Visa from Bangladesh — IOM Dhaka Booking, Cost, and Sputum Culture Risk

Bangladesh is on the UK's mandatory tuberculosis screening list. Every applicant for a visa longer than six months must get a chest X-ray at an approved clinic. A TB certificate from any other hospital — no matter how reputable — will not be accepted.

The real risk is not the test itself. It is the sputum culture delay that catches applicants who book too late.

Approved Clinics in Bangladesh

IOM Dhaka (UN House): House 1, Road 88, Gulshan 2, Dhaka 1212. When calling, press extension 3 to reach the TB screening call centre directly.

IOM Sylhet (Medi-Aid): South Dorga Gate (Near Minar), Dorga Moholla, Sylhet 3100.

Green Crescent Health Services Dhaka: 60 Park Road, Baridhara Diplomatic Zone, Dhaka.

Green Crescent Medical Diagnostic Chittagong: Khan Plaza, 1407 SK Mujib Road, Agrabad, Chittagong.

The Sputum Culture Risk

If your chest X-ray is clear, you get the TB certificate within two to three working days. But if the X-ray shows any abnormality — even an old scar from a childhood BCG vaccination reaction or a previous infection you fully recovered from — you are sent for a sputum culture test.

The sputum culture has a minimum incubation period of eight to ten weeks. There is no way to expedite it.

This is the single most dangerous timeline risk in the entire Skilled Worker application process from Bangladesh. If your employer gave you a CoS with a start date three months away and your X-ray triggers a sputum culture, you will miss your start date. The job offer may be withdrawn.

Strategic Timing

Book your TB test at least three months before your intended travel date. The TB certificate is valid for six months, so booking early carries zero penalty.

If you have a history of TB — even if you were fully treated years ago — bring your previous medical records to the appointment. Disclosing treatment history upfront can sometimes prevent the need for a full sputum culture, since the clinician can contextualise the X-ray findings.

What to Bring

  • Your passport (original)
  • One passport-sized photograph
  • Payment (check whether your clinic accepts cash, card, or both)
  • Any previous TB treatment records or chest X-rays

If You Are Booking for a Family

Every dependant aged 11 or above must also undergo TB screening at an approved clinic. Children under 11 get a physical examination and questionnaire instead. Book all family members' tests at the same time to avoid coordination delays.

The TB test is one component of the Bangladesh documentation timeline. The Bangladesh to UK Skilled Worker Guide maps the TB screening alongside police clearance, Education Board verification, UGC attestation, financial evidence building, and the VFS appointment — so no single bottleneck catches you off guard.
