TB Test for UK Visa Bangladesh: IOM Dhaka Booking, Costs and Sputum Delay
TB Test for UK Visa Bangladesh: IOM Dhaka Booking, Costs and Sputum Delay
Bangladesh is on the UK government's mandatory TB screening list. If you are planning to stay in the UK for more than six months — which covers all Skilled Worker visa holders — you must complete a chest X-ray at a Home Office-approved clinic before your application can proceed. This is not optional, and a certificate from a non-approved hospital will lead to an immediate refusal.
The hidden risk is not the test itself. It is the sputum culture delay.
Why You Need to Book This Early
A standard chest X-ray result takes 2-3 working days if the result is clear. But if the X-ray shows any abnormality — old scarring from childhood illness, a shadow, anything that the clinic radiologist flags — you are automatically moved into a sputum culture test. That test takes 8-10 weeks to complete because the culture requires an incubation period.
For a Skilled Worker with a Certificate of Sponsorship that has a start date, 10 weeks is enough time to lose the job offer. Book your TB test at least 12 weeks before your intended visa submission date. If the X-ray is clear, you finish in 3 days. If it is not, you have time to absorb the delay without collapsing your timeline.
Approved Clinics in Bangladesh
The Home Office publishes the official list of approved clinics. As of 2026, the approved providers in Bangladesh are:
IOM Dhaka (International Organization for Migration) UN House, House 1, Road 88, Gulshan 2, Dhaka 1212
IOM Sylhet (through Medi-Aid) South Dorga Gate (Near Minar), Dorga Moholla, Sylhet 3100
Green Crescent Health Services — Dhaka 60 Park Road, Baridhara Diplomatic Zone, Dhaka
Green Crescent Medical Diagnostic — Chittagong Khan Plaza, 1407 SK Mujib Road, Agrabad, Chittagong
Do not use any other clinic, even a major private hospital in Dhaka. UKVI only accepts certificates from these approved providers.
Costs
| Provider | Test | Fee |

| Green Crescent Dhaka | Chest X-ray (age 11+) | BDT 5,500 |

IOM fees are paid in BDT at the official conversion rate set by IOM on the date of payment, not the market rate. This fluctuates slightly.

What Happens at the Appointment
Children under 11 receive a physical examination and questionnaire rather than a chest X-ray. Everyone aged 11 and above receives a chest X-ray.
Bring your valid passport and the appointment booking confirmation. The clinic photographs you, takes the X-ray, and produces a sealed certificate with your photograph attached. You cannot open the certificate — it is sent directly to VFS or presented sealed to the visa application center.
If your result is clear, you will typically receive the certificate within 2-3 working days of your appointment.
The Sputum Culture Test
If the radiologist identifies scarring or shadowing on the X-ray, they will request sputum samples (phlegm). You provide these samples across multiple visits over a few days. The samples are then sent to a laboratory where they are cultured to detect active tuberculosis bacteria. This process takes 8-10 weeks, sometimes longer.
Applicants who have had TB in the past and recovered should disclose this at the clinic and bring any previous medical records or treatment documentation. This context helps the radiologist interpret the X-ray more accurately. An old healed scar from childhood TB is common in Bangladesh and does not automatically mean a failed result — but it does trigger the sputum culture requirement.
Certificate Validity
The TB certificate is valid for 6 months from the date of the X-ray. Plan your application so the certificate does not expire before you submit your visa.
Prior History of TB
If you have been treated for TB in the past, disclose it on the clinic intake form. Failure to disclose and a subsequent sputum result that shows prior exposure creates a credibility problem on your visa application. UKVI caseworkers check for consistency between what you declare and what medical results show.
Practical Booking Tips
IOM Dhaka operates on an appointment basis. Call the IOM Bangladesh office to book rather than relying on email alone. Appointment slots can be limited, particularly during peak application seasons (typically January-March and July-September). Green Crescent may have faster availability.
Arrive at the clinic on time. Bring only what is required. The Gulshan area clinics have limited waiting space.
Fitting This Into Your Timeline
The TB test should happen in parallel with your police clearance application and your ECCTIS/ENIC verification — not sequentially. If you try to complete one document at a time, you will run out of runway. The full document preparation for a Bangladesh to UK Skilled Worker application typically takes 3-4 months when these steps run concurrently.
The Bangladesh to UK Skilled Worker Guide covers the full document sequence with exact timing windows, including how to coordinate the TB certificate, police clearance, UGC attestation, and VFS appointment so that nothing expires before submission.
