Police Clearance Certificate Bangladesh for UK Visa — The Full Process
Police Clearance Certificate Bangladesh for UK Visa — The Full Process
The official timeline for a Bangladesh Police Clearance Certificate is 7 to 15 working days. The realistic timeline is 4 to 6 weeks. If your permanent address on your passport is in a different division from where you actually live, add another week or two. And if you enter the wrong treasury challan code at Sonali Bank, you start the payment process from scratch.
The PCC is mandatory for Health and Care Worker visa applicants and strongly recommended for everyone else. Submitting one proactively strengthens your genuineness profile — it signals to UKVI caseworkers that you have nothing to hide.
The Online Application at pcc.police.gov.bd
Create an account using your NID number and a mobile phone number you actively monitor.
What you need to upload:
- Scanned copy of your passport bio-page
- Scanned copy of your NID (front and back)
- Two digital passport-sized photographs
- Your permanent address (as listed on your passport)
- Your present address (where you actually live)
The Treasury Challan Payment
The treasury challan code for police clearance is 1-2201-0001-2681. Pay BDT 500 at any Sonali Bank branch or through the e-challan portal online. Keep the receipt — you must upload a scanned copy. If you pay under the wrong code, the payment does not transfer and you pay again.

The Permanent vs Present Address Problem
When you submit online, the application goes to the police station (Thana) matching your passport's permanent address — not where you actually live.
If you work in Dhaka but your passport lists a village in Sylhet, the verification happens at the Sylhet thana. A physical verification team may visit, and officers may call you for clarification.
How to manage this:
- Have a trusted family member at your permanent address ready to meet the verification team
- Make sure the phone number on your application is one you check constantly
- If you can be present at the permanent address during the verification window, that accelerates things
Realistic Timelines
Based on actual applicant experiences:
- Dhaka permanent address: 2 to 3 weeks
- Divisional cities: 3 to 4 weeks
- Rural areas or address mismatches: 4 to 6 weeks
Apply about three to four months before your intended visa submission. The certificate is valid for six months, but UKVI prefers it to be no more than three months old when you submit.
What to Do If It Stalls
If your application has been pending for more than three weeks with no contact:
- Call the thana directly and reference your application number
- Visit in person if feasible
- Check status online through the portal
- If the delay threatens your CoS timeline, contact the SP office for your district
The PCC is one of several Bangladesh-specific documentation steps with their own timelines. The Bangladesh to UK Skilled Worker Guide covers the complete police clearance process alongside the Education Board verification chain, UGC attestation, TB screening, and financial evidence requirements — all mapped to a timeline that prevents any single bottleneck from derailing your application.
