CRS Score for Bangladeshi Applicants: What You Need and How to Improve It

The CRS score is the single number that determines whether you get invited to apply for Canadian permanent residency through Express Entry. Where Bangladeshi Profiles Typically Fall Short

Age penalty: CRS assigns maximum age points (110 for a single applicant) to those aged 20–29. From 30 onward, points drop by 2 per year. By age 35, you have lost 10 points. By 40, you are down 28 points. For many Bangladeshi applicants who spend their mid-20s building qualifications rather than immigrating immediately, age becomes a real constraint.

The three-year degree trap: A significant portion of graduates from National University-affiliated colleges hold a three-year Bachelor (Pass) degree. WES Canada typically assesses this as "three years of undergraduate study" — not a completed bachelor's degree. The CRS difference:

• Three-year pass (assessed as incomplete degree): 84 points (with partner)
• Completed four-year Honours degree: 112 points (with partner)

That 28-point loss is compounded by the Skills Transferability penalty: you cannot claim the education + language bonus if your degree is not assessed as completed.

Language at CLB 8 vs CLB 9: This is the highest-impact variable under a Bangladeshi applicant's control. Moving from CLB 8 to CLB 9 — specifically achieving Listening 8.0 on IELTS while maintaining 7.0 in the other three bands — triggers Skills Transferability bonuses worth 30–50 additional points. CRS Minimums: What the Data Actually Shows

There is no single "minimum CRS score" for Express Entry. The cutoff changes with every draw. What the data shows for 2024–2025:

• General draws: CRS cutoffs ranged from 509 to 539
• STEM category draws: Cutoffs ranged from 468 to 491
• Healthcare category draws: Cutoffs as low as 430–463
• French language proficiency draws: Cutoffs in the 393–466 range

For most Bangladeshi applicants without a Canadian job offer or PNP nomination, the realistic path to an ITA runs through category-based draws (STEM or healthcare), not through a general draw. The Most Effective Ways to Increase Your CRS Score

1. Retake IELTS targeting CLB 9

WES typically evaluates a three-year Bachelor (Pass) + two-year Master's combination as equivalent to a Canadian Bachelor's degree, recovering the 28-point education loss and unlocking Skills Transferability bonuses.

3. Pursue a Provincial Nominee Program

A PNP nomination adds 600 CRS points — effectively an automatic ITA. Saskatchewan (SINP), which does not require a Canadian job offer and prioritizes STEM and healthcare, is frequently accessible for outland Bangladeshi professionals. Ontario's Human Capital Priorities stream targets Express Entry candidates with specific IT and healthcare NOCs in the 450–480 range. Manitoba's Skilled Worker Overseas stream prioritizes applicants with family connections in Manitoba.

4. Learn French

Achieving a qualifying score on the TEF Canada or TCF Canada exam at Alliance Française de Dhaka (branches in Dhanmondi and Gulshan) adds bilingualism points and opens access to French language category draws, which have seen cutoffs as low as 393. This is a medium-term investment — conversational French takes 12–18 months of consistent study — but the payoff is substantial for applicants who plateau below 490.

5. Check category-based draw eligibility

If your occupation falls under a STEM NOC code (2xx range), a healthcare NOC, or a recognized trade, you may already be eligible for category-based draws with cutoffs 40–80 points below general draw levels.
