Canada Immigration Medical Exam in Dhaka: Clinics, Costs, and TB Rules

After receiving your Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canada Express Entry, two medical steps must be completed before you can submit your full application: the immigration medical exam (IME) with an IRCC-designated panel physician, and biometrics collection at the Canada Visa Application Centre (VAC). For applicants in Bangladesh, both happen in Dhaka.

This guide covers clinic options, costs, the TB protocol specific to Bangladeshi applicants, and how to book your biometrics appointment.

IRCC Panel Physicians in Bangladesh

IRCC designates specific clinics — called "panel physicians" — to conduct immigration medical exams. Only these clinics can certify results to IRCC. You cannot use your regular doctor or any hospital not on the IRCC list.

Currently, the IRCC-designated medical facilities in Dhaka are:

Clinic Location Standard Fee (Age 15+)
Mercury Medical (Wahab Medical Centre) Gulshan 2, Dhaka BDT 8,000
Green Crescent Health Services Baridhara, Dhaka BDT 8,000
IOM Migration Health Assessment Centre Baridhara, Dhaka BDT 8,000

Fees for children under 15 are lower — typically BDT 4,000-5,000. Confirm current fees directly with the clinic when booking, as these are updated periodically.

Book immediately after ITA. Panel physician slots in Dhaka fill quickly. Do not wait for other documents to be ready before booking your medical appointment. The 60-day window between ITA and application submission moves fast.

What the Medical Exam Includes

The standard immigration medical exam for Canada includes:

  • Physical examination by the panel physician
  • Chest X-ray (primary TB screening tool)
  • Blood tests for HIV and syphilis
  • Urine analysis
  • Review of your medical history and any current medications

Bring your valid passport (the same one listed in your Express Entry profile), a recent passport photo, and any previous medical records you have — particularly records of past illnesses, vaccinations, or prior TB treatment.

Results are sent electronically by the panel physician directly to IRCC. You do not receive a paper copy of your medical report. IRCC will note in your online account when medical results have been received.

The TB Protocol for Bangladeshi Applicants

Bangladesh is classified by IRCC as a country with a high prevalence of tuberculosis. This means your chest X-ray will be reviewed with TB as a specific concern, and even historical signs of TB infection — old lung scarring from a past infection that has been treated and resolved — can trigger additional testing.

If your X-ray shows any finding consistent with prior TB (even if you have never been diagnosed with active TB), the panel physician is required to initiate a sputum test. This involves:

  1. Collecting sputum (mucus from the lungs) on three consecutive days
  2. A lab culture period of approximately eight weeks to confirm whether TB bacteria are present

This can add two to three months to your medical processing timeline. If you know you have a history of TB or have been treated for it in the past, bring all relevant medical documentation to your exam appointment. Prior TB clearance records, treatment completion certificates, and chest X-ray comparisons can help the panel physician contextualize your results and may reduce the investigation period.

If your sputum culture comes back negative (no active TB), your medical will be approved. A positive result triggers treatment requirements before PR can proceed.

What this means practically: If you or a family member has any history related to TB, build an extra 3-4 months into your timeline planning. Do not book flights or give notice at your job based on a timeline that assumes no medical delay.

Biometrics: VFS Global in Dhaka

For Express Entry permanent residence applications, most applicants need to provide biometrics (fingerprints and digital photograph) to IRCC. Biometrics for Canadian immigration are collected at the Canada Visa Application Centre (VAC) operated by VFS Global.

The primary VAC for Bangladesh is located in Dhaka. After submitting your Express Entry application (or in some cases after paying biometrics fees if required before submission), IRCC will send a Biometrics Instruction Letter (BIL) to your online account. You must book your biometrics appointment after receiving this letter.

Booking process:

  1. Receive BIL in your IRCC account (check your online application portal)
  2. Visit the VFS Global Canada website to book a Dhaka appointment
  3. Pay the biometrics fee if not already collected (CAD 85 per person, or CAD 170 per family — paid to IRCC, not VFS)
  4. Attend the appointment with your passport, BIL, and appointment confirmation

VFS Dhaka appointment slots can be limited, particularly during peak periods. Book as soon as you receive your BIL rather than waiting.

Biometrics are typically valid for 10 years once provided. If you previously gave biometrics for a Canadian temporary resident visa (study permit, visitor visa), you may not need to provide them again — your BIL will confirm whether new biometrics are required.

Timing Your Medical and Biometrics Within the 60-Day Window

A common planning mistake: treating medical and biometrics as steps to do after all other documents are gathered. In reality, both should run in parallel with document collection.

Suggested sequence after receiving ITA:

  • Day 1-3: Book panel physician appointment (earliest available slot)
  • Day 1-5: Begin gathering all other required documents (reference letters, WES ECA, police clearances, bank letter)
  • Week 2-3: Complete medical exam
  • After submitting application or receiving BIL: Book biometrics immediately

If the medical reveals a TB-related delay, you will have submitted your application with all other documents complete, and the medical results will follow. IRCC allows medical results to be added to applications in process in most cases.

The Bangladesh to Canada Express Entry Guide includes a document-by-document timeline built around the 60-day ITA window, with specific guidance on the TB sputum protocol, what to bring to your Dhaka panel physician appointment, and VFS biometrics booking steps.

Children and Dependants

All dependants listed on your Express Entry profile — including children and a spouse — must undergo the medical exam even if they are not accompanying you to Canada initially. Book appointments for all family members at the same time to minimize scheduling friction.

Children under 11 years old do not need a chest X-ray as part of the standard exam; the TB screening is done through skin or blood tests instead. Confirm the exact protocol for your children with the panel physician when booking.

Getting the medical done right, without delays, is one of the highest-leverage steps you can control in the Express Entry process. Bangladesh's TB classification makes it worth understanding the process thoroughly before your appointment.
