Express Entry Job Offer Points: How Many CRS Points You Get
Express Entry Job Offer Points: How Many CRS Points You Get
A valid job offer in Express Entry is worth either 50 or 200 CRS points — enough to push a borderline candidate well above the cut-off score. But the rules around what qualifies as a "valid" job offer are strict, and most Filipino applicants applying from overseas will not have one. Understanding exactly how these points work helps you assess whether pursuing a job offer is worth the effort versus other CRS-boosting strategies.
The Two Point Values
200 CRS points: For NOC TEER 0 (senior management) positions — these are "00" coded occupations like senior managers of health, education, or financial services.
50 CRS points: For all other eligible NOC TEER categories (TEER 1, 2, or 3) — this covers the vast majority of professional and skilled positions including registered nurses (NOC 31301), software engineers, accountants, and trades workers.
For context, the difference between 50 extra points and zero often means the difference between receiving an Invitation to Apply and waiting indefinitely. General "all-program" draws in early 2026 have cut-offs between 507 and 550, while healthcare category draws sit at 462-476. Those 50 points can be decisive.
What Counts as a Valid Job Offer
Not every Canadian employment offer qualifies for CRS points. The job offer must meet all of these conditions:
- LMIA-supported or LMIA-exempt: The employer must have obtained a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment, or the position must fall under an LMIA-exempt category (e.g., intra-company transfers, international agreements)
- Full-time and non-seasonal: Minimum 30 hours per week, year-round
- At least one year in duration: The offer must be for one year or more from the date you would become a permanent resident
- From a qualifying employer: The employer must be a Canadian business operating for at least one year, with a physical presence in Canada
A job offer from a staffing agency where the actual work is performed at a client site does not automatically disqualify the offer, but the staffing agency itself must hold the LMIA.
Why Most Filipino Applicants Do Not Have a Job Offer
For applicants applying from the Philippines or from an OFW posting in the Gulf, obtaining a valid LMIA-backed job offer before arriving in Canada is difficult. Canadian employers generally reserve the LMIA process for candidates they have already identified — typically those already in Canada on a work permit or PGWP.
This means most Filipino Express Entry candidates score zero in the job offer category. The good news: category-based draws for healthcare workers have pulled CRS cut-offs down to 462-476 in 2026. Filipino nurses with CLB 9 scores and a Bachelor's degree can reach these thresholds without a job offer.

How to Get a Job Offer From Overseas
While difficult, it is not impossible:
Provincial Nominee Programs: Some PNPs like the Atlantic Immigration Program do not require an LMIA and will match you with designated employers. If you receive a provincial nomination, you get 600 CRS points — far exceeding even the 200-point job offer bonus.
International recruitment events: Healthcare authorities in provinces like Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan actively recruit Filipino nurses at international job fairs. These employers often handle the LMIA process.
Canadian employers with international operations: If your current employer has a Canadian office, an intra-company transfer may qualify as an LMIA-exempt job offer.
Job Offer Points vs. Category-Based Selection
The introduction of category-based draws in 2026 has reduced the importance of job offer points for many Filipino applicants. Here is why:
Before category draws, general "all-program" draws dominated Express Entry. Cut-offs ranged from 470-500+, making the 50-point job offer bonus critical for borderline candidates. Without it, many applicants simply could not reach the threshold.
Now, healthcare draws at 462-476 and trades draws at 477 create alternative pathways where a strong language score and relevant work experience can substitute for a job offer. A Filipino nurse with CLB 9, a BSN degree, and 3+ years of experience can reach 470+ without any job offer points.
The 50-point bonus still matters most for:
- General/all-program draws (cut-offs at 507-550) where every point counts
- IT professionals waiting for STEM draws to resume (dormant for 23+ months)
- Applicants over 35 where age point reductions create a deficit
Strategies When You Have No Job Offer
For Filipino professionals without a Canadian job offer, focus CRS-building efforts on:
- Language scores: Moving from CLB 8 to CLB 9 in all four skills adds significant points
- Education: A second credential or a Canadian credential adds points
- Canadian work experience: Even one year of Canadian experience adds 40+ points to core CRS
- Provincial nomination: Worth 600 points — the single most powerful boost available
- French language proficiency: CLB 7 in French unlocks draws with cut-offs as low as 393
What Happens If Your Job Offer Falls Through
If you received an ITA based on CRS points that included a job offer, and the job offer is subsequently withdrawn, your CRS score drops by 50 or 200 points. If this causes your score to fall below the draw cut-off, IRCC may refuse your application for misrepresentation of your profile — even if the withdrawal was not your fault.
Always notify IRCC promptly if your employment situation changes after receiving an ITA. Failing to disclose a withdrawn job offer is treated as misrepresentation, which can result in a five-year ban from Canadian immigration applications.
