The Scarcity Problem
VFS appointment slots in Bangalore, Mumbai, and Hyderabad — the three cities where most Indian IT professionals need biometrics collected — are the scarcest in the country. New slots release at irregular intervals and fill up within hours. If you wait until the second week after your ITA to start booking, you may not find a slot within your 60-day submission window.
Biometrics fee: CAD $85 per person (approximately ₹5,270). Biometrics are valid for 10 years once collected — if you provided biometrics for a previous Canadian visa application within the last 10 years, you do not need to provide them again.

Booking Tactics That Actually Work
Check the booking portal multiple times per day — visa.vfsglobal.com releases new slots without notice, and the busiest centres (Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad) often show availability only briefly before being snapped up.
If your preferred city is full, check smaller cities. Ahmedabad, Pune, and Jalandhar frequently have availability when the tech corridor cities do not. A domestic flight or overnight train to a smaller city costs far less than the risk of missing your 60-day window.
Monitor weekday mornings between 9-11 AM IST. VFS releases cancellation slots during business hours without advance notice. Set a phone reminder to check at 9 AM, 10 AM, and 11 AM daily.
Book immediately after receiving your Biometric Instruction Letter (BIL) from IRCC. Do not wait to organize other documents first.

The Identity Mismatch Trap
VFS centres will refuse entry if the name, date of birth, or other details on your appointment letter do not match your passport exactly. This is the most common reason applicants lose their appointment slot — and losing a slot in a scarce city can cost you weeks.
Your name on the VFS appointment must match your passport bio-page character for character, including middle names, initials, and spelling. If your passport says "RAVI KUMAR SHARMA" and your appointment says "RAVI K SHARMA," you will be turned away. If you recently married and changed your name, ensure the passport reflects the current name before booking.
Bring the original passport to your appointment, not just a photocopy.
After IRCC Approval: Passport Request
After IRCC approves your application, you receive a Passport Request (PPR) letter for visa stamping. You can submit your passport at any VFS centre — in person (no appointment needed for PPR) or via the Two-Way Courier Service (approximately ₹1,716) if you are not near a VFS centre.
Premium Lounge
VFS offers a "Premium Lounge" for ₹4,767 with a private waiting area and document assistance. It does not speed up IRCC processing or affect your application outcome. Whether it is worth the money depends on your patience for crowded government offices.
